Habitat for Humanity a Plans "Ladies Only" Golf Tournament as Fund Raiser for the "All-Women Built Home" Scheduled for Construction on May 1st

Twenty-one women have volunteered for the committee to plan and construct the "All-Women Built Home" scheduled for May 1. Five of the women are licensed building contractors and the clearing of the land will be done by a woman. Leading the overall day-to-day operations are Carol Brunson and Courtney McQuaig. Robin Peightal will lead framing, Holly Yelton, roofing, Patti Farrell, plumbing; Patrice Neil, siding; Nancy Brenner, trim; Gloria Connor, interior painting; Leona Brown, donated materials; Kelli Branscomb, food; Chris Veenstra, fund raising; Susan Timmons, corporate sponsorship; Robin Burchfield and Krista Slaven, volunteer recruitment; and Kathryn Peterson and Verna Brown, publicity.

The home is being built for an ex-Navy single mother with two daughters, ages tow and ten. All-women volunteers have built over 350 Habitat for Humanity homes worldwide, and this will be the second one in St. Johns County. To volunteer and participate in this event, call Verna Brown at 826-3252. No expertise nor experience is needed as workshops and on-site instruction will be provided.

The cost of the construction is approximately $50,000 and to date, $17,000 raised last year by our affiliate's former Volunteer Coordinator, Lynn Rothemund on her "Biking Through Florida Campaign" and $3,150 raised by Womemade last fall bringing the total to $20,150. Approximately $30,000 must be raised in the next few months and the "Ladies Only" golf tournament is the primary fund raiser.

"We have levels of $1,000 for Key Company Sponsors, $600 for Luncheon Sponsors and $100 for Hole Sponsors," Verna Brown of Habitat said. For further sponsorship information, call Kathryn Marshall at 904.829.9075, or Verna Brown at 904.826.3252. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, March 28, at Marsh Creek Country Club. The $75 entry fee includes golf, cart and lunch. Registration begins at 8am and the shotgun start is at 9am.
