Habitat for Humanity campus chapters and collegiate challenge bring student volunteers to St. Augustine during spring break
During spring break each year, high school and college groups from around the country build with Habitat affiliates. This year, two groups participated with our affiliate. In March, a group of 21 high school students from First Christian Church in Salem, Virginia, arrived in St. Augustine. Six of the students worked with Habitat installing windows, putting up siding and nailing shingles. The other 15 students built a deck for the Homeless Coalition.

Over $20,000 Raised at Wine Gala
What could be more beautiful than the Casa Monica Hotel decorated for the Christmas Season? Add to that, 400 guest dressed in holiday attire, and you have the makings of a truly wonderful event. This year's Silent Art Auction & Wine Tasting for Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine was a smashing success. Guest enjoyed the scrumptious buffet presented by Chef Rene Nyfeler of 95 Cordova Restaurant, lovely melodies by harpist Diane Schneider and dancing to the music of Paul Sikivie Jazz Quintet.
This was the 9th year of this traditional kick-off event of the Holiday Season and each year Habitat for Humanity is amazed at the generosity of our local artists and art galleries who donate all the art for the Silent Auction. Local businesses donated items for the themed gift baskets and other businesses joined in as Corporate Sponsors. Net proceeds from the event go directly towards building homes for local, low-income working families.
With the average cost of a Habitat for Humanity home being $48,000, fundraising activities are yearlong endeavor. This year's holiday event raised over $20,000. Watch for the upcoming Women Only Golf Tournament at Marsh Creek Country Club on March 28th and an All-Women Build construction that will begin on May 1, 2005. Contact Verna Brown at the Habitat for Humanity office at 904.826.3252 for more information about any of these events.
