A DIFFERENT KIND OF SNOWBIRD.....
RV Care-A-Vanners come from all over the United States. They coordinate with Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, GA, to determine where they are needed, then plan their itineraries based on where they would like to travel. In March, an eleven member team of six men and five women arrived in their six RV's and began building a Habitat home for a local father raising three sons. The St. Augustine Record is sponsoring the three bedroom, two bath home and some of their employees joined the Care-A-Vanners at the site. Lloyd Gidley, the team leader, is a retired Construction Manager from California. He and his wife Gail reside full-time in their RV and have been volunteering with Habitat and traveling the U.S. for over eight years. "When we retired and started traveling," Gidley said, "we needed more than just sightseeing. We chose to build with Habitat. It has served our needs and the reward of helping those in need is our reward." In the ten day visit the group completed the framing, roofing and installation of windows and doors of the home. Pictured below are the RV Care-A-Vanners.
